This story holds a special place in my heart and I feel is only fitting to start my new endeavour off with. Golden Dog Sled Adventures in Golden, British Columbia is a business that I was a part of starting along side owner Matt Parr. Parr has been in the industry for now 6 years, starting off as a musher in Whistler, BC he feel in love with the sport. Getting his first sled dog that year, training her to be an incredible lead dog. He then breed her the following year. With a litter of 11 he trained and began his first team. With that his true dream was realized. To start his own small business with 2 teams of rescued dogs from across Canada. Moving to Golden, BC in 2014 himself as well as I began the task of building this new business. Travelling all the way to Saskatchewan to rescue 8 sled dogs and then to Williams Lake, BC to acquire another 8. Not all the dogs were capable of pulling anymore, but leaving them behind we knew the outcome. The few that were older, we worked with and eventually were able to re-home to farms in the area. To bond with new owners. We worked day and night bonding with our team and working to gain their trust. It was most certainly not a smooth journey, with passings of loved ones, lose of land, no snow, dealing with threats to the dogs, we endure and pushed on. Eventually kicking off the season Christmas day 2014.
This is one of those jobs that is a lifestyle. 24 hours a day 7 days a week. These animals are what feed us, house us, love us and work along side us. They expect nothing less from us. This common bond brings us together as family. Unites us as one incredible team. Sweeping through the snow and trees like the wind.
