Day 3 - April 30, 2018

Waking up to a beautiful day. Calm and cloudy. The best pot of coffee yet!

I am so tired, trying to remember the morning, let alone the whole day, I am feeling is near impossible.

We make good time paddling up a stretch of river that seems remote with cliffs every so often. We tuck in behind an island and the channel leads us to two abandoned boats. one , a large old fishing vessel, now taken over by vines. The next, a boat that looks old military. The only residents now a pair of osprey and geese.

As the channels merge back into one we come to a port city. Lewis and Clark bridge towers high over head. It’s beautiful in its own industrial way, however, the large tankers and shipping yards pollute the horizon all around and I could do without.

As a ship comes in, we wait as to avoid getting caught between waves and docks, or boat. The sun beats down and i have my feet in the water.

Carrying on a short distance we pull off for a quick bite of lunch. Back on the river and happy to be out of the small city.

The river now has beautiful cliffs that give way to hidden coves. A couple sealions play in the currents and we ride a large set of waves.

We are visibly showing our exhaustion now as our paddles splash against the surface. We stop more frequently for 2- 5 minute breaks.

Finally we find a large beach and call it a day. Routine continues and as we sit and eat dinner we watch two eagles sore by.

One turning and flies directly o’er head, perching himself straight above our tent. A rainbow across the river.
